It’s that time of year again to celebrate Granny Square Day! This annual day was first created in 2014 by Susan Regalia, as she fell in love with granny squares while learning to crochet.

The first granny square was recorded in 1885. Yes, 1885! It was inspired by a form of quilting. How cool is that? If you want to learn more about the history of crochet granny squares, watch this fun and informational video by Littlejohn’s Yarn.

From household items to fashion, the crochet granny square is a true classic and not likely to go anywhere, as we discover new ways to use the granny stitch (3 double crochets in a single space or stitch).
