Free Crochet Along: Crossing into Winter Set

SHARE

A closeup image of crochet fingerless gloves and cowl made from chunky yarn in a winter blue color.

I’m excited to have you join me for the Crossing into Winter Set, free crochet along! This set includes a cowl, ear warmer and fingerless gloves are full of texture. By using a bulky #5 yarn, this crochet accessory set will work up quick enough that you may want to make a set for the while family.

The Crossing into Winter Set is a size inclusive crochet pattern with instructions to fit children through adult large. Each crochet accessory features a faux cable that is created by crossing tall stitches, which means that there is no wrong side.

With winter’s arrival, you can choose to wear one or all three accessories to match you mood or level of warmth. Personally, I’m wearing all three if it’s 35 degrees or colder. I’m always cold! Brrrrr! The crochet cowl is wide enough that it can be draped over one’s head like a hood for the extra chilly days.

Why a crochet along?

A crochet along is a great way to hang out with a community of crocheters that love making the same type of crochet projects as you do. Also, if someone is new to this type of crochet project, a crochet along offers a lot of support from the designer and other other CAL participants.

And my favorite reason for a crochet along is seeing all of the wonderful color choices and finished pieces! Often, I find inspiration for a color I hadn’t considered using to make future crochet projects.

How the crochet along will work

This free crochet along will cover 5 weeks from January 1 to January 31, 2024.

A schedule is provided for each section of the crochet along for the Crossing into Winter Set from the yarn, gauge information to making this crochet set at a pace to finish in time for cold days of winter. The Crossing into Winter Set is a premium pattern, but can be accessed in sections for free during the CAL only.

If a participant has the ad-free PDF or chooses to purchase a copy as a CAL participant, you can work ahead of the provided schedule.

Participants will be sent emails about each section of the crochet along, and one can post their progress pictures in the Creations by Courtney Community FB group under the associated posts or on Instagram with the following tags, #CreationsbyCourtney, #CBCCAL and #CrossingIntoWinterSet.

Each participant that posts a modeled picture of their finished Crossing into Winter Set by January 30, 2024, will be entered in the giveaway for a $25 gift card. If the selected winner lives outside of the US and Canada, we will discuss an equivalent in their region.

What you’ll accomplish during the crochet along

Supply List

Yarn

The original sample of the Crossing into Winter Set for the Crochet Guild of America Quarterly Crochet Along was made with Patons Alpaca Blend, an acrylic, wool, alpaca and nylon blend single ply yarn, that has since been discontinued. It was a fun yarn to use that was soft and warm to wear against the skin. As a bulky #5 weight yarn, there are LOTS of options to select a currently available yarn. I have listed several options below that are a bulky weight alternatives that I think will work up beautifully.
