Sunrise Chevron Wrap: Crochet Pattern

Sunrise Chevron Wrap, a crochet pattern made with just one skein of Red Heart Super Saver Ombre

The Sunrise Chevron Wrap was named by an awesome fan and the Creations by Courtney Community!

The Pantone Color of the Year for 2019 is Living Coral, which is one of my favorite colors, and one of my wedding colors. I had to make something right away, and grabbed some Red Heart Super Saver Ombre in Sea Coral. Have you seen the ombre yarn yet? The range of colors are great!

I wanted to make a one skein project because many of us crafters will grab at least one skein to try out, but then ponder ? on what we’ll make. Now you don’t have to wonder what to do, and will only need one skein of RHSS Ombre or just 482 yards of your favorite worsted weight yarn.

Additionally, this is a simple project that can be made in a day or over the weekend, but the foundation row will teach you some new techniques. ?

The Special Techniques

So if you haven’t converted over to foundation stitches yet, what are you waiting on?? Once learning foundation stitches a few years ago, I use them just about every change I get, except for lacy or open stitch designs. I thought it wasn’t possible to make a foundation row with skipped stitches, until I decided to go through my Crafty/Bluprint video library. (Don’t tell me I’m the only one that gets courses/patterns and doesn’t use it right away? You’re among friends, so it’s okay to admit it ?) Anyways, there is a method for creating foundation chains with the foundation stitches! #gamechanger #unlimitedpossibilities

The Sunrise Chevron Wrap will give you the opportunity to learn how to make two foundation chains while making a foundation double crochet 2 together, an increase of 2 foundation double crochet, chains and 2 more double crochet for the peak, beginning foundation double crochet 3 together, and foundation double crochet 3 together.

I know that it sounds like a lot ? but as long as you practice and go slow by following each step in the explanations, you will succeed!

NOTES

  • Pattern is written in US terms
  • Be sure to read entire pattern before beginning
  • It can help to practice the special technique stitches prior to beginning the shawl to increase familiarity of how the first row is created.
  • Beginning ch 2 does count as a part of the dc3tog
  • Be sure to work peak stitches into around the ch-2 of the row below rather than placing the dc in the dc of the row below.
  • It can help to place a stitch marker in the ch when creating the foundation stitches.
  • Be sure to work under both loops of the chain for the foundation row. This creates a neater appearance and helps maintain the shape of the stitches.
