Tunisian Color Block Wristlet

SHARE

Who doesn’t need a wristlet or another notions bag?

I hope I’m not the only person that carries multiple notions bags in one large project bag based on the size of the notion….

I decided to create the Tunisian Color Block Wristlet after creating a larger color block design as an introduction to color change in tunisian simple stitch.

I know that it seems backwards to create the small project after a large project, but that’s what happened. LOL Technically, I made a tiny swatch with some cotton left over yarn in my stash before I dived into any project to make sure it was a neat color change.

Besides practicing creating a color block look, I used a third color in the wristlet to make the triangle flap and strap. The flap will allow you to practice making increases that I learned from TL Yarncrafts video on tunisian on the bias/ tunisian corner to corner.

I love playing with small projects for learning and practicing new techniques, such as increasing at the beginning and end of the row in tunisian. I like how it creates a defined edge on both sides, but definitely takes some practice for the tension of the first loop so one side doesn’t turn out longer than the other.

Yarn

Yarn support was offered by WeCrochet! I’m enjoying working with their yarns, and the level of support that they are offering crochet designers. I chose Dishie Cone for a large project to minimize yarn ends (does anyone enjoy weaving in ends??) There was plenty left over to make this tunisian color block wristlet, and many more projects.

Dishie Cone comes with a generous 760 yards/ 400 grams per cone and comes in 9 colors. Now if you want more colors to choose from (and make it harder to decide), you should definitely check out Dishie Yarn that’s available in 29 solid colors, 12 twist colors, and 18 multis. Each option offers enough yards for this tunisian color block wristlet.

Design

The tunisian color block wristlet offers two looks in this little pouch. The color block is opposite on each side, and you’ll be surprised at how easy this is to make in one piece. You’ll only need to seam the sides, attach a button, and add the wrist strap!

I hope you like buttons like I do. I choose a fun wood button to add a little sass to the project. Since tunisian simple stitch creates a solid fabric with minimal gaps, this wristlet could work as a notions pouch or a wallet for a quick trip to the store.

I made a simple wrist strap but you could make it wider to suit your preference.

NOTES

  • Pattern is written US terms.
  • Read the entire pattern before beginning.
  • Pattern is written in 6 parts: Flap, Back, Front, Seam, Edging, and Wrist Strap.
  • Each row of Tunisian is written as the forward pass and return pass. These rows are never turned.
  • The final Tss is always worked under two loops at the end of the row.
  • At a color change, it helps to pull the the second color up and over the first color when making the YO. This secures the dropped color to maintain gauge.
