Quentin Tunisian Scarf Set

SHARE

It’s time hop on the Tunisian Crochet train with the Quentin Tunisian Scarf Set!

Although I designed this to be a skinny scarf for toddlers, kids and teens, it would be easy to adjust the size for adults too. *wink wink

You may be asking who is Quentin?

Quentin is my husband’s and bonus son’s name. During Q Jr.’s summer visit, I asked his opinion in the scarf style. He actually responded with an infinity scarf. Can we take a moment to acknowledge that a 16-yr old responded and didn’t just shrug hi shoulders?? ?? Winning parent moment!

The Quentin tunisian scarf can be worn in a traditional style as a scarf, or the ends can be seamed to create a loop. Personally, I love a mobius loop scarf, as it always has a turn in it that makes it super easy to wrap multiple times for layers of warmth. In having designed the Tunisian Lattice Top, I had to include a little bit of lace with tunisian double crochet and simple color changes for a project that the young ones will enjoy wearing as much as you enjoy making.

With an alternating pattern of solid and lace stitches plus the color change on each row, you can grab your son, daughter, niece, nephew or little cousin’s favorite two colors to make a truly unique tunisian scarf.

The Quentin Tunisian Hat follows the same alternating pattern of stitches and color change to complete the set. I chose to make a flat hat for simplicity and easy sizing. If you want to make an oversized hat, then it is best to make the width the same as the recipient’s head circumference. For a fitted hat, make the width 1-2 inches [2.5-5 cm] smaller than the recipient’s head circumference.

Yarn

I chose to grab Yarn Bee Rustic Romantic from my stash, which is an acrylic and hemp blend yarn. It has actually pieces of hemp intertwined which was a little distracting at times with crocheting, but overall, it’s a soft yarn that was enjoyable to work with. It’s available in eight neutral colors that is sure to appeal to many.

My kiddos like bright colors, so I’m sure that I’ll be making a pink and red, orange and purple, and orange and blue versions. It’s sure to be an interesting sight…

Rustic Romantic is a worsted weight yarn, so you can grab your favorite worsted weight, or even a DK or bulky weight yarn to change the level of coziness.

Hook

Did you know that a Tunisian Crochet hook only needs to be 1/3 of the total width of the project that you’re working on?

That means that a standard afghan hook, which is typically 14″ [35.5 cm] long, could accomodate a project up to 42″ [106.7 cm]… Personally, I wouldn’t want to hold the weight of a project that wide on a straight Tunisian crochet hook, and choosing a tunisian crochet hook with a cable would be much kinder to the wrist.

Since we’re making a hat and scarf set for toddlers, children and teens, it won’t be too much weight to use a straight hook. Honestly, it’s a personal presence. You can even use standard crochet hooks that do not have a thumb rest for small tunisian crochet projects.

My current favorite straight tunisian crochet hooks are GORGEOUS and made by Furls Crochet. If you want a tunisian hook with a cable, then definitely check out the Radiant Tunisian Crochet hooks at WeCrochet. Besides being gorgeous, these hooks can be bought individually or as a set that comes with multiple cables, connectors and stops to accomodate a range of project sizes. The benefit of single hooks is that you can try it out before investing in a set.

If you’re not a fan of a straight hook, or the weight of the fabric may aggravate your wrist, consider treating yourself to a single tunisian crochet hook with a few cable lengths and connectors, or a set of tunisian crochet hooks. If you’re in love with tunisian crochet like I am, then a set is totally worth the cost, which can range from just a few dollars on Amazon to over $100 for a set of Clover tunisian crochet hooks. If you’re interested in a beautiful set that is reasonably priced, consider treating yourself to the Radiant Wood Interchangeable Tunisian Crochet Hook Set.

    1. Definitely join the tunisian train, Kelly! It’s so much fun once you learn where to insert the hook. Tunisian crochet is probably why I haven’t re-learned to knit since it’s the best combo of crochet and knit.
