I’m so happy to have you here to check out the Kaleidoscope Top! It’s the first fingering weight crochet garment by Creations by Courtney!

Over the past 2 years, I have begun using more fingering weight in my crochet, and started with the X-Capade Shawl and Sand to Sea Shawl. My stash has been fed plenty of fingering weight yarns that are waiting for the perfect pattern. ?

The Kaleidoscope Top went through several name changes, but was first born when I was asked to submit an idea for the the Progress, Hope & Happiness 2021 Make-along. You can check out #happinessmakealong2021 on IG to see the indie dyers, designers and designs!

The inspiration boards were amazing and exciting for my creativity, especially the fashion looks and shapes, which inspired the Fractal Crochet Lace. It’s always exciting when a crochet stitch or design shows up in a dream.

Two Looks in One

The Kaleidoscope Top has two distinct fabrics in two contrasting colors that come together in a unique design that you’re sure to receive lots of compliments when wearing.

This was totally out of my comfort zone to work with chartreuse, coral, light turquoise and off white. I LOVE all colors, especially cheery colors, but I decided to step into the discomfort and take notes from the inspiration boards to pick two colors that didn’t seem to compliment one another.

I hope you are as surprised as I am to see how the colors work so well together! The subtle hints of white that show up with the chartreuse of the linked stitches tie in the predominating off white of the Fractal Lace side.

If you prefer complimentary colors, definitely choose coordinating colors or even one color when making the Kaleidoscope Top, although I really would love to see you take a walk on the wild side with me. Let your fashionista shine!

• Color A: Voie de Vie Yarns Moco Fingering, fingering weight # 1 yarn (50% superwash wool, 50% cotton, 435 yds/ 398 m; 3.5 oz/ 100 g skein): 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) skeins in #001 Impressionist Pie 
• Color B: Voie de Vie Yarns Superwash Bling, fingering weight # 1 yarn (70% superwash wool, 25% nylon, 5% stellina, 462 yds/ 422 m; 3.5 oz/ 100 g skein): 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3) skeins in #002 Chartreuse-ish
• US Size E (3.50 mm) and G (4.00 mm) hooks or size needed to meet gauge
• Round Elastic
• Scissors

• Pattern is written in US terms.

• Pattern is written in 8 parts: Fractal Lace Body Piece, Linked Triple Treble Body Piece, Seaming if the Body Pieces, Shoulder Straps, Edging, Blocking, Puff Sleeves, and Finishing. 
• Garment includes 3-4” of positive ease.
• Each size has been color coded for ease of reading.
• The foundation row can be substituted by making a ch that is the same number listed in pattern + 1 to ensure that the first row of sc is the same number as the fsc.
• The stitch of the first and last leg of each DTDtog will be used by the previous and following DTDtog, except for the first and last one. 
• Ch 4 can be substituted for CSTR.
• 7 sts are always skipped between the legs of each Dtr2tog 
• It helps to insert the hook under 2 sets of loops of the DTDtog of the row below to reduce the natural lean of the sts.
• Instructions do not include ch 1 for all sc rows for a straighter edge to be created.
